Brad N. Hall is the Vice President of External Affairs for Appalachian Power Company, a subsidiary of American Electric Power (AEP). Brad’s territories of responsibility include Virginia, West Virginia and Tennessee, where he leads the following departments: Governmental Affairs, Economic & Business Development, Corporate Communications, and Customer Services. Brad recently moved to Appalachian Power from another AEP Subsidiary, Kentucky Power Company where he was Manager of External Affairs. Prior to joining AEP, Brad was the President and CEO of the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce where he was very involved in economic development for eight counties of eastern Kentucky. Brad has a great deal of experience in the utility industry. Prior to his role at the Chamber, he was the Director of Operations and Director of Revenue Assurance for Southeast Telephone, and he also served as Controller for the Mountain Water District in Pikeville Kentucky for five years.
During his time at AEP, Brad has designed and implemented programming, developed partnerships, and worked to create new regional economic organizations that culminated into what is now known as the Appalachian Sky project. Appalachian Sky has elevated the profile of eastern Kentucky and what it has to offer industry. The project was a key component in locating the first green-field aluminum rolling mill to be built in the U.S. in over 40 years creating 550 permanent jobs. The project was also key in locating a power battery manufacturer to Pikeville, KY, creating 875 permanent jobs.
Brad has served on several boards throughout Kentucky. He was a board member and an Executive Committee member of the Ashland Alliance (Chamber of Commerce). He served on the Advisory Council for Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR). He was the Vice Chairman and board member of One East Kentucky, where he served as the first Secretary & Treasurer of the organization. He served as a board member for the East Kentucky Concentrated Employment Workforce Investment Board, a board member for the Kentucky Association of Economic Development, a committee member for the Kentucky Chamber’s Energy and Policy Committee, and a member of the Rotary Club of Ashland.
In the past, Brad has served the following organizations: Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce (board member, Executive Committee Member, Vice Chairman, and Chairman Elect), Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executives (Chairman and board member), Pikeville Pike County Airport (board member and Secretary/Treasurer) Kentucky Chamber of Commerce (board member), University of Pikeville Alumni Assoc. (board member), Big Sandy Regional Healthcare (board member); and Pikeville Rotary Club (board member). In 2008, Brad was honored by his peers with the Chamber Executive of the Year Award for the Kentucky Chambers of Commerce by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Executives. In 2011, he received the Rising Alumni Award from his Alma Mater at the University of Pikeville. In addition, Brad was recently named to the Virginia Chamber Board of Directors.
In his personal time, Brad is an avid bass fisherman, and he enjoys travelling, music, golf, riding his motorcycle, and attending concerts. Brad is a musician and sings and plays the drums. He is married to Laura Ford Hall who has been a Professor of Communication as well as the Director of the Music & Drama Programs for Kentucky Community and Technical College System for 15 years, she will be teaching for Virginia Western Community College now that they have relocated to Roanoke. Brad and Laura will celebrate their 16th year of marriage in January of 2019. Brad and Laura are dedicated in their service to their church. They give thanks to God for the many blessings in their lives.
